I wear many hats as a Realtor, designer, home builder and remodeler,
and I am always working with clients to help them find and/or create their dream home.
It can be difficult, especially for first time homebuyers and in this current seller's market.
This lovely couple was looking for their first home.
After searching high and low without much luck, I proposed the idea of remodeling a home to make it meet their needs-
they went for it!
We did remodel this entire property, but today I want to start by talking about this beautiful kitchen.
This home was a great find because it already had an open layout for the kitchen, dining room and family room.
Unfortunately, this home had not been cared for in a very long time.
The colors made it look dark and drab, not to mention the mismatched flooring and cabinets that were falling apart.
It took some time and thoughtfulness to create a budget-friendly and beautiful space that included all of their desires.
Looking to design your own beautiful kitchen?
I'll break all the selections down for you below!
White Shaker Cabinets
We LOVE white shaker cabinets.
They have a classic look that can’t be beat.
The popularity also means you can find these for a really amazing price.
If you're looking for a preassembled, ready to install cabinet, these Aspen White Shaker cabinets make any kitchen look bright and open.

We always select soft close doors and drawers to keep the cabinets in great shape, as it avoids them slamming.
We made a point to have drawers next to the range because we love the accessibility of storing pots and pans in drawers.
Another must-have for them was a pullout waste container to keep their garbage out of sight in the beautiful new space.
Marble and Butcher Block Countertops
For their dream kitchen, they wanted marble countertops on the perimeter.
Marble is a gorgeous choice but definitely comes with plenty of maintenance.
We often talk about our love of quartz because they have a marble look but are low maintenance!
If you’re looking for a countertop to with the marble look but want something lower maintenance,
this Vibrato Quartz countertop is a great option.
With so much white in this kitchen, it was important to them to keep the space looking warm.
The walnut butcher block countertop is a stunning addition to the space.
It offers a large amount of workspace and if it gets worn, stained, or scratched, it can be sanded down to look new again.
Backsplash
For the backsplash they selected a white 3"x 6" subway tile.
We paired it with white grout to keep it looking clean and bright.
I personally love white on white and feel the texture of the shiny tile against the matte grout makes a perfect combination.
Subway tile is classic and also one of the most affordable tile choices you can make.

White Apron Front (Farmhouse) Sink
A great fit for the farmhouse chic style of this kitchen was a white apron front sink.
They selected one that was enameled cast iron with two basins and plenty of room to wash dishes.
It adds style while also making the space more functional.
Faucet
A kitchen faucet with a pull down sprayer paired well with such a large sink.
It allows flexibility when rinsing dishes, large pots and pans, or prepping food.
This particular style is also beautiful because it offers a modern take on a traditional style.
Under Cabinet Lighting
Having lots of layers of light is important in a kitchen.
Under cabinet lighting is both useful and beautiful as it offers great light while cooking and preparing food.
It also shows off a stunning backsplash when left on by themselves.
These great LED under cabinet lights offer cool light that is complementary and functional for any kitchen.
Pendant Lights
The pendant lights they chose are awesome!
They are bright, contemporary, and with the bulbs being visible you could use an antique looking bulb to add a more industrial look.
We decided to do three lights because of the size of the island and there's something so appealing to the eye about odd numbers.
These lights really add great style to the space.
Flooring
Running new flooring throughout the entire space made a huge difference in making it look bigger and giving the space better flow.
When deciding on flooring we considered a few factors: budget, style, and durability.
After talking over the options with the homeowners, laminate wood flooring was our best choice.
The floors are Pergo XP Riverbend Oak which have a soft feeling on the feet, wide plank and a rustic look to match the style of the home.
The light color keeps the space feeling bright and open.
These floors are durable and also easy to install.
Cabinet Hardware
I like to think of hardware as jewelry for your cabinets.
The choices they made for their cabinet hardware matches the style of their home perfectly.
The cup pulls are great for all the drawers, especially because they have a lot of larger drawers in their kitchen.
The knobs feel great in your hand and offer easy opening and closing of the doors.
The polished nickel color is bright and coordinates well with the stainless steel appliances and the kitchen faucet.
