Lounging in a hanging daybed is the perfect place to be alone, to entertain visitors, or just enjoy being outside while maximizing your comfort.

What Is An Outdoor Hanging Daybed?
Often compared to a suspended sofa or large cushioned porch swing, a hanging outdoor daybed is hung from 4 or more points above it and can swing front to back and sometimes side to side.
These differ from a typical porch swing as they are usually made large enough to fit a mattress size cushion, similar to a daybed used inside a house.
They are often made of weather resistant outdoor materials to withstand the elements and can be used on a porch, patio, or other outdoor location.
3 Things To Consider When Purchasing An Outdoor Hanging Daybed:
The Material For Daybed Cushions -
If you plan to put a mattress and/or cushions on your daybed, you will want to ensure it had the right material. Outdoor fabrics are made to be able to better withstand the elements outdoors. Which will help them stay looking better for longer. It can also making it easier to clean them in case they get dirty.
Weight Limit Of The Daybed
Make sure to note the weight limit of the daybed. It is important to ensure it will be able to hold your desired weight based on how you plan to use it. This should also include the weight of any cushions or other items you may have on the daybed along with the weight of the users.
How The Daybed Will Hang -
There are two different types of installation for hanging daybeds.
Outdoor daybeds can hang from a structure such as a porch, arbor, or pergola, or some come with a stand that supports the weight of the daybed.
If you get an outdoor swinging daybed with a stand, you will want to make sure you have a flat surface to place it to help avoid tipping and ensure it is placed in a secure location.
I have found that most often outdoor swinging daybeds will be hung with either metal chain or rope from the structure above. When selecting this style, you will want to consider the weight of the daybed, how you will use it, and if the structure you have will support the weight adequately.
2 Types Of Outdoor Hanging Daybeds:
Outdoor Hanging Daybeds For A Porch Or Other Structure
This style of swinging daybed is installed to a structure such as a porch, pergola or arbor. It is often attached to a structural beam using a heavy duty eye bolt. They can be hung using a rope or metal chain as recommended by the chair manufacturer and your personal preference.
Below are some examples of the hangers and bolts used to support an outdoor hanging daybed. Depending on the size and weight of the daybed you choose, you will want to select an appropriate weight bolt or hanger set to support it.

Outdoor Hanging Daybeds With A Stand
There are also outdoor swinging daybeds come with a stand that is used to support the weight of the daybed. Sometimes they even come with a canopy that can be used to block out the sun and other elements, replicating a similar environment to having a covered porch or pergola that it would hang from. These are great for people who do not have the space to hang their daybed on a porch or deck or are not looking for the commitment of building a large or expensive new structure.
That said, in order to safely use a hanging daybed with a stand, there will need to be a flat surface for it to sit. This is important to ensure it won’t tip over and injure a user or cause damage to the swing itself.
