We all know there comes a time when every bathroom needs a refresh.
It can be a daunting process to start because there are so many moving parts!
You may not be remodeling everyday, but we are - thats why we decided to make an easy step-by-step guide to help you understand each stage of a bathroom remodel.
It breaks the process down for you to have appropriate expectations for what will happen and so you know how to ensure you’re prepared.
Bathroom Remodel Stage 1: Create A Plan
Making a detailed plan for your bathroom before you begin helps to ensure the outcome will match your vision. It can reduce stress and help you stick to your budget.
Creating a plan for your bathroom remodel includes:
Finding your design style
Creating a budget
Interviewing and hiring a contractor
Purchasing all plumbing and lighting fixtures
Bathroom Remodel Stage 2: Demolition
Demolition of the bathroom includes removal of all materials not to be kept in the existing room. That includes all your personal items along with all of the surfaces you are replacing such as bathtub/shower, flooring, vanities, lighting, mirrors, etc.
It can be a messy, but satisfying, part of the process. You finally get to see the blank canvas for your new bathroom!
At this stage you will need to plan to be out of the space until all of the work is completed and the permit inspections have all been passed.
Bathroom Remodel Stage 3: Rough In
Next the new layout for the bathroom with begin to take shape.
First, any changes to the framing or structure will happen to create the new walls, soffits, etc.
Next up is installation of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, in the floors, ceiling and walls.
After the framing and rough-in of the mechanicals is complete, there will be a round of Inspections of for each to ensure they have been done correctly before being covered up with insulation and drywall.
Bathroom Remodel Stage 4: Vanity and Tile Installation
The bathroom will begin to feel like a room again in stage 4!
Drywall will be completed, which includes any work on the ceilings, if applicable.
Once the drywall is in place, the tile installer can get to work. Any floor or wall tile will be installed in the space.
With the flooring and walls up, the bathroom vanity and other storage or cabinetry can be installed in the desired locations.
Bathroom Remodel Stage 5: Installation of Fixtures
The mechanical contractors come back to finish up in stage 5.
Light fixtures will be installed by the electricians.
The sinks, faucets, shower head, and toilet will be installed by the plumbers.
Then the bathroom fan and any other HVAC finishes will be wrapped up as well.
Final inspections for all mechanicals will be completed.
Bathroom Remodel Stage 6: Finishing Touches
To complete the space, there are just a few finishing touches to wrap up the bathroom remodel.
Painting the walls and ceilings can set the mood for the room.
Installing mirrors, shower doors, towel bars and any other decorations will be added to make it feel like home!
